Pain Management During Pregnancy: Risks & Concerns

I have had several hospital stays during my pregnancy for kidney trouble.  I have had surgery three times, one with a spinal anisthesia and the other two I was put to sleep. I've been on a lot of pain medicine as a result of the surgeries and problems with my kidneys.  My concern is long term effects on the baby.  Will my child be harmed by all the medicine that I've had to take?

Hello Nicki. You really have had very little choice in these circumstances. Most of the medications you would have taken will not harm your baby. You may find that your newborn is a little slow to catch onto sucking at the breast. However, it will happen- just be patient. Hope that helps- Cheri.
