Understanding 4cm Cervical Dilation: What to Expect

I went to the hospital on the 1st of September with contractions that were about 3.5 to 5 minutes apart. When I got there they had me lay down my contractions went to about 10 minutes apart they had me walk for two hours straight to see if I would dialate to 5 I didn't so they sent me home again. How long can I stay dialated to four before my contrations will be hard enough for me to stay?

Hello Sara. I personally walked around for three weeks at four cm. dilated. When you actually DO enter active labor, it won't take long for birth to happen, most likely. Just be patient and let mother nature decide when the time is right. All the best- Cheri.
