Slow Fetal Growth at 29 Weeks: Causes, Concerns & Next Steps
QuestionI am currently 29 weeks pregnant I have just been measured by my midwife, she has found that the baby has only grown 0.5cm in the last two weeks. I am trying to find out why, and what I can do to help the growth of the baby - and if there is any medical proceedure e.g scan that I should insist upon. She currently has only arranged for me to see her next week to be measured again.
AnswerIn order to assess any evidence of Intra Uterine Growth Restriction, serial sonograms are required in order to see if there is adequate growth. A measurement, by hand or tape, by a midwife is not enough objective evidence of IUGR. Insist on a sonogram to see if there has been adequate growth. (I assume you had a sonogram at 16-20 weeks gestation).
