Uterus Size in Early Pregnancy: A Month-by-Month Guide

Question
5/7/06 LMP

Just curious how much your uterus will grow in early pregnancy.  Like how big will it get in the first few months?

Answer
We cannot feel the size of the uterus until after 6 weeks from the first day of your last period. By 12 weeks, we can palpate the fundus of the uterus just above your pubic symphysis. By 20 weeks gestation, the fundus (the top) of the uterus is felt at the level of your belly button. If you have a tape measure, place the end of the tape on the symphysis pubis and the number of centimeters at the top of the uterus, corresponds to the number of weeks pregnant  you are. Nobody can tell how far pregnant  you are until you are over 20 weeks gestation. You will not feel fetal movement until 22 weeks. Prior to that time, you will feel gurgling and gas as your intestines are pushed around.
