VBAC Decision: Navigating Your Options After Cesarean
QuestionHello.I'm 24 years old and a mother of 2.I'm now 34 weeks on my thrird baby. I have a 3 year old, 19 month old baby girls. My first baby was born healthy and a natural birth. Then my second baby had a cearean. I hated the slow recover, and pain I had.It hasn't even been 2 years and I'm a at 34 weeks, now. I'm very scared to have another c-section, as well as a natural birth.I think the baby is breeched at this point in time.
Thanks for listening,
Alicia G.
AnswerIf the baby remains in the breech presentation, you will have another cesarean section. That is the safest method of delivery for you and for the baby. You should get a sonogram at around 38 weeks gestation and see if the baby is still a breech. If it is a breech at 38 weeks, you should have an elective repeat cesarean section. If the baby has turned to a vertex presentation, you can wait until you go into labor, but realize that any hint of any problem will cause you to have a repeat ceaarean section. If the labor does not go smoothly, you should have a cesarean. I would not allow an induction of labor. If you do not go into labor by 40 weeks, you should ask for a cesarean section. That remains the safest method of delivery due to the 1% risk of rupture of the uterus at the site of the previous scar fro the prior section. Good Luck.
