VBAC After Uterine Surgery: A Personal Story & Pregnancy Update

Question
I have had an uterus/abdominal surgery when i was 14 years old.  There was some kind of benign fibroid/tumor growing just inside my uterus and I used to cramp severly when i got my periods. We went to see a ob/gyn and after doing tests, she recommended surgery to remove the growing mass.  Anyway, the doctor made a vertical incision and everything went fine and now i get my periods normally and without severe cramps. Now I am a healthy, twenty seven and married and 3 months pregnant and want to have my baby normally.  Is it possible?
I have heard that women who have had vertical incisions cannot have normal viginal delivery because their uterus might rupture.  I tried to talk to my doctor and she said there was no way i could give birth naturally.  Should I ask for a second opnion.
P.S. my abdominal incision is exactly like a vertical cesearean incision.
thanks

Answer
Hello Roma- don't take what your dr. has said as the only opinion. It is much easier for the dr. if you have a section. You MUST educate yourself about this issue and I have complete confidence that a vaginal birth for you is just fine. However, YOU must be convinced that it is right for you. You NEED to read these two books- OPEN SEASON and THE SILENT KNIFE both by Nancy Wainer Cohen. Go to her website(her name) to learn more. Nancy is THE expert in section prevention in North America and a very skilled midwife. YOUR best chance of a vaginal birth IS by using a midwife- see if you can locate some in your area and interview them- I think you will find that you much prefer their care over medical care. Nancy's books will give you all the facts you are looking for and much more. All the best- Cheri.
