QuestionMy last period began July 27th, 2006, it was terribly heavy
and I was miserable for 6 days.I had to use over 40 tampons and countless pads. Then I haven't had one since. Thinking I was going through the change of life I didn't worry about it.All of the sudden I was so tired all I wanted to do was sleep. That lasted weeks, then all of the sudden I was nauseated most of the day and suddenly every thing smelled strong and offensive to me, I was getting the dry heaves when any one even talked of any thing unpleasant. This is still happeneing but not with such great frequency. My best time of day is between 2:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. I feel like a ball of energy and can't sleep. Then a few weeks ago I started feeling this butterfly feeling in my right side ,it wasn't gas .Next thing I knew my breast are aching and feeling strange .My fiance is angry I won't make love with him right now because it is great during but after all I want to do is go barf my brains out.Usually my stomach is empty so I get the dry heaves. Then I started getting these feelings of feeling mean and hateful when interupted when doing anything.I called my primary care Dr. and told her I thought I needed my blood sugar and thyroid checked ,well my sugar was a bit high but we decided to change my diet as it wasn't too high yet. That went on for two months. My boy friend said he thought I was pregnant , so reluctantly I bought a EPT test it was negative,As my symptoms continued I was given 5 more negative tests, then I went to my OBGYN he ran a test that said I was going through menopause but I asked him to examine me and he refused. He told me I was 46, overweight and not pregnant. Two days ago I saw my regular Dr. and talked to her about my OBGYN and she examined me.Not vaginally but from the pevic area up.She said I appear to be about 4 or 5 months pregnant from my pelvic area and then she checked out my abdomon and felt a huge mass mostly on the right side. She said she was positive I was pregnant so ordered blood serum tests as the EPT's were all negative.Well the results for this were negative also. Now something is moving in there and when I feed it eat.It stops the nausea and then it flutters a while .Now she has ordered a ultra sound of my entire pelvic and abdomon area that is for tomorrow afternoon. I have been doing things really strange for me like being a mother hen to people, even people I don't care for.I am doing what my girl friend calls nesting when I can't sleep and have all this energy I end up cleaning out closets and straightening up shelfs and reorganiseing stuff. I have also lost aabout 25lbs , but have gained 3lbs back this last month.I feel like I am going crazy.I and my Dr. are 99.9 % positive I am pregnant but so far no blood or urine tests are showing any positive signs. Why would this be ? i am getting white sticky stuff in my breast nipples also in just the last two days and the ache is awful.I am craving high protien meat and orange vegtables like carrots aand squash, sweet potatoes. Some of my favorite junk foods like Lays potatoe chips suddenly taste horrible and smell awful. They actually make me gag.I have to pee about every time I turn around.I am also craving milk products and fruit juice and water I can't get enough of it. I am beginning to believe I am going nuts.I am totally confused and scared. Debbie
AnswerHi Debbie :)
Wowsers! What an ordeal you are going through!
Well, I have to agree with you, as well as the opinion of your second doctor. ThankGoodness, the second doctor was thourough enough to give you an exam, and did notice the mass that you discussed.
Your symptoms, are classic for early, as well as mid pregnancy. Especially when you mentioned that you are now experiencing colostum from your breasts. That is indeed quite a huge indicator that you are pregnant.
Often, though when ladies are experiencing menopausal symptoms, those symptoms can mimic pregnancy to a tee. However, your symptoms in my opinion go a little past this simply being a menopausal issue. Its very possibly that you could have in the started to have menopausal symptoms. In any event, that certainly doesnt stop you from becomming pregnant, if anything just makes ovulation and cycles irregular.
Beta HCG serum tests are almost always conclusive. However, I have heard of rare occasion when ladies do get a false positive, even with blood work. Allthough its rare, it does happen. Infact, it happened with my own mother when she was pregnant with me. I had a little chuckle because your story, sounds very simular to my mothers story. My mother, was not positively diagnosed for pregnancy until she was 5 months pregnant with me ..lol So it just goes to show that nothing is 100% fullproof, even when we truely beleive that some tests and procedures are fullproof.
So Debbie, you are not going nuts. These symptoms you are experiencing are very real, and obviously being caused from something. Why are your tests coming back negative? There is no concrete answer for that. Usually, they come back negative because the HCG level is to low to register. However, if pregnancy is why you are experiencing your symptoms, you can rule that reason out. Like my mother ..all tests, urine and blood came back negative, but she was certainly pregnant with me.
The tell tale result will be in the ultrasound. If you are pregnant, then they will see a formed baby with a heartbeat, head, and limbs. So that will be the tell tale test to truely diagnose what is going on with you.
Keep in mind, it is possible that you could have an ovarian cyst, of uterine fibroid that can be causing a major hormonal imbalance right now. Cysts and fibroids can go to be extremely large, and actually make some women look pregnant. Also, they can cause chaos, with hormones, again mimicing pregnancy symptoms.
However, I still dont think really your issue is a cyst or fibroid. Your symptoms are very severe, and does lean to wards a pregnancy. For now, all you can do is sit tight and see what the result is from the ultrasound.
I would be VERY intrested in knowing what the result is from this. Would you please write back and let me know? I would love to hear the outcome of your condition.
Good luck with your ultrasound tomorrow, and I hope to hear from you soon, with the result.
Thanks for writing, and if you have any more concerns, or questions, please dont hesitate to write back, anytime.
Thanks for writing!
