QuestionGood morning,
I am 27 yo. I have 2 children with 5 pregnancies. My first child was stillborn in 2000 at 40 weeks gestation. He passed away 2 days before I went into labor naturally on my due date. The autopsy did not reveal any clue for his demise other than SGA which in itself is not a reason. He weighed 5 lbs 7 ozs at full term. I was in labor for 6 hrs, no episiotomy or medication. Everybody, doctors and midwives, dismissed this as a fluke, probably not likely to repeat since there was no know cause.
I had a miscarrage a few months later at 9 wks. Blighted ovum.
My daughter was born in 2002. Textbook pregnancy, no complications, 3 hr labor. She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz.
My son was born in October of 2004. At 30 weeks we began to notice the same things happening with this baby as with the first baby. My fundal height stopped increasing and even began decreasing to be 29cm by labor. Until this point, it had increased cm for wk. I began weekly ultrasounds to determine the health of my son, they showed slow growth and decreasing amniotic fluid. I began with a little over normal (26), and it decreased steadly over the next 6 wks. There was no leak, just a disappearence of fluid. By 37 wks, I was told my son was IUGR and I needed to be induced. The induction was a cervical cream, since I was only 2cm. After 1 hr of that it was removed because his heart rate would drop everytime I had a contraction. At times over the night it would stay down for up to 4 mins. at a time. The next morning I was given the option to have pit or c-section. Knowing the induction would not work we opted for the section. When Lyndon was born, he weighed 5lbs. 5 ozs. at 38 wks. The doctor said that my fluid was maybe at 2.
I am now pregnant, about 8 wks. I would like to attempt a VBAC if we do not encounter the same problems. I have been having some occasional pain from the previous section. Sometimes it feels like there is a popping within the muscles, after I sneeze, that were affected in the section. I am wondering if you have ever encountered any situation similer to this or know of one and also if it is too soon to attempt VBAC. Is there anyway to check the conditions of the muscles associated with delivery. I tend to be more natural and would like to have a natural delivery. Is the pain I experience from time to time normal for somebody who recently had a c-section?
Thank you for your time.
Jessica
AnswerIf the cesarean was in 2004, there is no reason why you can't try for a VBAC in this pregnancy. None of the weights of your children were abnormal, even for 36-38 weeks. I have no explanation for the difficulties you had in the past (IUGR, stillbirth, SGA, miscarriage). I would suggest that you sit down with your doctor and discuss everything in detail. Good Luck.
