VBAC in California: Vaginal Birth After Cesarean - Your Options

Question
With my first child I had to have and emergancy C-Section.  I really do not want to have another C-Section, my first one was a really bad experiance.  Is it possible in the state of California to have a vaginal delivery after having a C-Section.  If so is there a way I can find an OB in my area who will allow it to happen.
Thanks for all the help.

Answer
Hello Edna. First- you need to educate yourself VERY well about VBACs- and the best way is to read these two books- Open Season and The Silent Knife- both by Nancy Wainer Cohen- go to her website(her name) to find out where to order them. Nancy is THE expert on the subject of VBACs. She can also guide you as to how to find a cooperative dr- BUT I would urge you to find several local midwives in your area- there are lots in CA- interview them and choose the one you feel most comfortable with- you have a MUCH higher chance of a successful VBAC with a midwife than with a dr. Also, read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin. All the best- Cheri.
