Cesarean Section: Addressing Concerns About Vaginal Stretching and Sexual Health

Question
In a debate on Cesarean, one told that in our modern life some women or couple opt cessarian because of the following reason:

Normal delivery leads to expansion of vagina, hence it will affect the sexual life after normal delivery. But cesarean doesn't affect the expansion of vagina.

I would like to know whether the reason is right ?and does couple purposefully opting this because of this ?

Answer
Many women have expressed desire to have a cesarean section to avoid the pain of labor, to avoid episiotomy, to avoid relaxation of the pelvis causing problems with support in the future, for urinary problems or purely electively. There are many debates as to whether a cesarean section should be done without proper indication (protracted labor, fetal distress, failure to descend, failure to progress, placenta previa, etc). I still do not believe that a cesarean section should be performed without a clear indication during the pregnancy. It is true that the vagina will stretch during a vaginal delivery, but it will not stretch during a cesarean section. However, there is no conclusive evidence that a vaginal delivery will lead to problems with sexual activity after the delivery.
