Yes, I had a great surprise to find out at my last ob appointment that my cervix were thinning. I was sent straight to L&D where I was kept for two days and had a cerclage placed that first morning. I am so worried that this thing isn't going to hold until were at least to a viable stage. Our son was stillborn this past February due to ruptured membranes, however, we were told that IC wasn't an issue, since my cervix were closed upon arrival to the ER by ambulance. They say it was an infection! Just looking for a little reassurance on this McDonald cerclage, this is our third pregnancy and we still have no baby at home with us. Thanks so much!

McDonald cerclage is successful in around 70% of cases. The incompetent cervix that you appear to have now, has nothing at all to do with the infection and ruptured membranes you had iin the previous pregnancy. Hopefully, the stitch will help prevent further thinning, shortening, and dilatation and you will proceed to term without further problems. Often, the stitch has to be excised at 40 weeks to allow you to go into labor. Try to have a positive outlook. We use the cerclages very often with excellent results. Good Luck to you.
Yesterday and today I have lots of pressure on my bottom. Sometimes it feels like its in my tailbone, then at times it feels like constapation. Even though I have had bowel movements today. Could that indicate that the stitch is failing to hold or reassurance that its doing its job and holding? Also it am having the butterfly flutters low in my pelvis? Is that normal?
AnswerYou should feel no pressure or discomfort from the McDonald stitch. If, however, you start having vaginal bleeding or break your water (rupture of membranes) notify your doctor immediately. Try not to constantly think of the fact that you have a stitch around your cervix. If you have constipation, try a stool softener. Good Luck.
