Understanding Fundal Height Measurements in Pregnancy: What to Expect

Hello,

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and at my last two visits, my fundal height has been 1-2 cm behind. My OB suggested I get an ultrasound to ease my mind. That's scheduled for next week. In the meantime, can you tell me if this discrepancy is something to be concerned about? My first child was on track the entire time. Should I be worried about growth retardation?

Hello Jenny. I NEVER use u/s scans until I have had THREE consecutive  large or small for dates measurements. Fetus growth is VERY individual from one baby to the next- they do NOT follow the textbooks. I urge you to wait until the next measurement before having the scan- they are NOT completely safe.
