QuestionI am 29, 0 children, 1 miscarriage a year ago, thought I had a menstrual period 12-24-05, but may have been implentation bleeding.
Because I felt I had a period on the 24th, I started Clomid on cycle day 5 (the 28th). I went on Friday 12-30 for an HSG and found out on the pre-test blood work that we were positive/pregnant. I stopped Clomid but had taken 2 days. My initial HCG was a 45 and I asked for progesterone due to the fact that I had been taking Clomid, but my Dr did not feel it was necessary. My HCG has gone from 45, to 63, and now a 97. My progesterone level was a 3 upon the 2nd blood draw and finally they called in Prometrium in which I have been taking for 3 days (even though Dr said it probably wouldn't make a difference). Is it possible that the Prometrium could have skewed my HCG 97 reading? I was truly prepared to see my reading stay around 63 and fall accordingly, but was shocked to find out yesterday that I was at a 97. I realize it is not ideal, but is there still hope? I have a follow-up blood draw 7 days from the last draw that was a 97. However, that is next Wed and I have a long wait ahead, so what do you honestly feel I can expect next and/or is there anything I can do to sustain this "possible" pregnancy? Thanks.
Sarah
AnswerSince you do not know the date of your last period, it is hard to tell how far pregnant you are and what your HCG values should be. However, it appears that HCG is increasing steadily. Progesterone does not have any effect on HCG values so don't worry. If your progesterone is really low, it certainly could not hurt to continue taking the prometrium, but stop the prometrium when you reach 12 weeks gestation. I would suggest getting a sonogram at around 6 weeks gestation to see if there is a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. Since the HCG values are increasing, there is no reason to suspect any problems. There will not be any problems because you took the clomid for two days. Don't worry.
