Pregnancy Cramps: Causes, Relief & When to Worry

Question
Hello.  My monthly cycle was always very heavy and was partnered with major cramps.  On most occasions, these cramps would be cripling and I would miss school and work.  After having a laporoscapy testing for endometriosis, they found nothing.  Now, I am pregnant and am 21 weeks along.  I have felt pretty good throughout the prenancy.  No morning sickness, no vomiting...I've been lucky.  However, for the past couple of days I have been cramping.  I know that some cramping is normal due to the uterus stretching, but when does it become something I shoudl be concerned about?  I felt horrible last night, just like I was getting ready for my menstral cycle.  If it is nothing to be concerned about, great!  But, do you have any suggestions on how to ease them so that they aren't so strong? Could it be gas? Thank you so much!

Answer
Hello April- you should become concerned only if these 'cramps' become very regular, gradually longer and stronger over time OR there is also vaginal bleeding. Otherwise, there is nothing to worry about. One of the best "treatments" is a very warm(hot) bath. If the bath settles things down, great- go to bed and sleep. Hope that helps- Cheri.
