Pregnancy Weight Loss: Is 35 Pounds in the First Trimester Concerning?

Question
Hi, I'm 24yrs old, and have 1 child and 1 child that I miscarried in June, and September 11th was the last day of my last menstrual period.  I'm about 14 weeks pregnant with my third child, and was wondering if losing 35 pounds during the first three months was bad.  I haven't been able to make an appointment with my doctor because of some insurance problems.  I was very sick everyday, throughout the day for the last three months, and I'm hoping I don't miscarry this one like I did the last one.  I was already almost 80 pounds over weight, and it was nice to lose the weight, but I'm still worried about the baby, and how losing this much weight will effect it.  Thank you for you time.

Answer
If you are losing more than 10lbs in one week, you should definitely see a doctor and, perhaps, be treated for hyperemesis gravidarum, especially if you are vomiting every day. You may require hydration, a sonogram, and medication to stop the vomiting. Usually, after 15 weeks gestation, the vomiting stops and you will be able to eat and regain the weight you lost. Do not try to lose weight during pregnancy.
