QuestionDr. Rappaport,
I am 29, no children yet, last date was Nov. 30th. Conception was probably around Dec. 21st, since my cycle is about 35 days.
I've been having mild diarrhea for the last 4 days. Yesterday, I had it 3 times. I do feel nauseous from time to time, but haven't vommited. I have other symptoms like tender breasts and frequent urination. I'm wondering why I've been having diarrhea; whether it was from food I had been eating (I was returned from Spain three days ago where we ate a fair bit of seafood.) or it's my reaction to the hormones. I don't have any other food poisoning symptoms (no fever, no stomach ache, no head ache). I just have to use the bathroom after eating a lot, and feel like I loose most of it.
I would appreciate any insights you have.
Thank you in advance.
AnswerThere can be many causes for diarrhea or copious bowel movements other than pregnancy. I would suggest that you try Kaopectate, Lomotrin, or Imodium if you are having diarrhea. In addition, try to keep replacing any fluids you lose. If your last period started on November 30 and you have 35 day cycle, you probably ovulated around December 20 or 21 and you would now be now 5-6 weeks pregnant. I doubt that the changes in your bowel movements are connected to the pregnancy.
