Pregnancy Weight Gain: Monitoring & Doctor Communication
QuestionI found out I was pregnant at 26 weeks and I am currently 30 weeks and have only seen my OBGYN twice. I did not think my doctor was very apathetic - so I will be seeing a new doctor on Friday. I worried because I have been told by family and friends that I do not look like I have gained much weight although my doctor said the ultrasound results were healthy. and so I called my referring doctor to find out what my weight was in January and she stated that my weight was always between 195-196pnds - the same weight that I am right now. Since I found about this pregnancy I have been eating healthier and have been exercising something I was not doing before. Could my new lifestyle be contributing to me non-weight gain? Is this healthy for the baby?
AnswerHi,
Yes, eating healthier and exercising is probably the reason for not gaining weight. Since you started out at 195 pounds, you don't really want to gain much. 10-15 pounds should do it for you. So, make sure you gain a little, but not too much. The baby is getting what he/she needs from you based on the ultrasound. But babies require more as the pregnancy goes along. So, make sure you are eating an additional 200 calories a day and try and keep the weight gain to 10-15 pounds. Good luck!
