Preeclampsia Risk in Subsequent Pregnancies: What You Need to Know

Question
If I had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy, will I have it again, or is it something that only happens sometimes?

Answer
Preeclampsia is primarily a disease of "first" pregnancies. However, you can have  pregnancy induced hypertension in any subsequent pregnancy. You are less likely to have preeclampsia in the next one, but you still should monitor your blood pressure, check your urine for protein, and be vigilant to any edema you may notice.
