Healthy Weight Gain During First Pregnancy: A 5-6 Week Check-In

Question
i am 23 yrs old this is my first pregnancy. i have been trying to get pregnant for 3yrs. we finaly found out that we are pregnant. the first day of my last period was march 2nd. the dr says that makes me 5 to 6 weeks. i am worried because this is my first child and i have gained 9 lbs already. i read that it is uncommon for first time moms to gain weight real fast. i am very worried that something may be wrong. i am not having any pain or anything. my weight before i was pregnant was 135 lbs and i am tall. should i be worried or is this normal?

Answer
We would like you to gain at least 3-4 lb each month. An ideal weight gain is around 30lbs for the entire pregnancy. The doctor will weigh you at each visit and see if you are gaining too much or too little. Don't worry about it now. Weight gain can be a combination of the growth of the fetus and what you have been eating. Just eat regularly. Don't worry.
