Bladder Prolapse: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment Options
QuestionI'm 70, and have had this condition for about 8 years. I had 4 children in three years and was told the bladder happened because of that. It hadn't been to bad until just recently when it really has dropped. I have been advised of side effects of surgery and that is why I haven't had any, but it is now getting very uncomfortable. Particularly when I took a seasonal retail selling job and was on my feet, that is when it really seemed to drop. Advice please.
AnswerIf you have a prolapsed bladder it may be due to a prolapsed uterus or merely a severe cystocele. It should be evaluated. If you have no other problems, the best method of treatment is via vaginal hysterectomy. This will be done through the vagina and you will have no abdominal scars. It alleviates your discomfort, especially if you have developed any uriniary incontinence due to the dropped bladder. Depending on your symptoms and how far out of the vagina the bladder protrudes, the vaginal hysterectomy will really help. There are really no side effects to worry about except for the 12 week recuperation period. If you have any specific questions, please get back to me.
