Understanding a Short Cervix: Risks & What to Expect
QuestionWhen i went for my 24 week visit i was told that for one my baby was goin to be a little on the small side around 6-6 1/2 pounds at birth and that my cervix is short (2.9). I was wondering what does it mean to have a short cervix and does it mean ill have the baby prematurely
AnswerDear Dionna
Short cervix may lead to prerterm labor in many ocassions and is considered as a risk factor for preterm labor. However, it is not a must if you have a short cervix that you will end up having a PTL.
What you can do about it is to avoid excercise, household activities, sexual intercourse or any form of sexual play, avoid self diagnosis of abdominal flu or gastrintestinal disturbances or cramps as these may be early signs of PTL and should be reported immediately to your caring Obstetrician.
Good Luck
