QuestionI am 32, I have had one child, vaginal delivery 13 years ago, my first day of last menstral cycle was May 5th, 2005, which would put me at CD 22.
Everything I read says that your cervix is high and soft when you are about to ovulate. The past few days my cervix has been high and hard, this morning, it was very low and soft, and I have had some cramping the past two days. Am I about to menstrate or ovulate? My cervical fluid is nearly non-existant, although a bit white, but quite dry. Isn't it too late for me to ovulate?
AnswerIt is very difficult to assess how hard or long or how high your cervix is. At the time of ovulation, your cervical mucus becomes very thin and can be stretched to long strands. HOwever, if you normally have a 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation usually occurs on cycle day #14. YOu can only become pregnant if you have sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 each month. If your last period started on May 5, you probably ovulated around May 18 and could have conceived if you had sex on May 17,18,19, or 20. You are due for your next period on May 28. Unless you normally have very long cycles (over 35 days from start of one to the start of the next) I doubt that ovulation occrred this late. Don't try to figure out ovulation based on cervical texture. It would be easier to purchase an ovulation predictor kit from the pharmacy and test your urine.
