Conceiving After a Miscarriage (D&C) & Provera: Timing & Considerations
QuestionHi,
I am 29, and had my first pregnancy and m/c recently. I had a D&C on Dec. 21, 2004 when I was 8 weeks pregnant. Pathology report showed a chromosomal defect. My doc recommended waiting two cycles before trying to conceive again, I asked if we could try sooner and she said at least wait 1 cycle. I know doctors vary on their opinion of how long to wait, but since I am relatively young, miscarriage had a known cause, and I am otherwise healthy, it seems okay to try after one cycle. However, my period did not come until over 7 weeks post D&C and that was only after doc prescribed 7 days of Provera. Okay, finally my question- does it matter that I took Provera to bring on my period? If doc said "one cycle" does that mean I need to have a normal cycle first, or is it okay to try after my "Provera induced" period stops (I am still having it now)? I would like to get started right away, but worry. What are your thoughts on this?
AnswerYou can start trying to conceive again after just one period, whether it came on its own or was induced using Provera. As long as you get one period, you probably will ovulate around 14 days after the start of your period and can become pregnant at that time. The only reason we say to wait for a period is in order to "date" the pregnancy when you do, indeed, conceive again. Don't worry. Good Luck.
