Breech Baby at 31 Weeks: Understanding Options & Chances of Turning

Question
Dr. Rappaport,
I am 27 years old and pregnant for the 1st time.  I am 31w1d today (due 2 May 05).  The first day of my LMP was 31 July 2004.  I went in to a commercial ultrasound studio this morning (Fetal Fotos) and the technician told me that my daughter is in the breech position.  I visited my OB on 22 Feb 05 and she was was still presenting vertex.  I am wondering how likely it is that she will go back to the vertex position and what I can do to "help" her turn around?  I have heard the wives tail that rocking back and forth on your hands and knees will help so I will try it.  With this being our only child, I have really hoped for a natural, vaginal birth.  I appreciate any advice you can give me.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Kristen

Answer
I would repeat the sonogram (at a reputable gynecologist's office or at a radiologist's office) at 36 weeks gestation. If it still is in the breech presentation at that time, I would suggest that you be delivered by cesarean section. It is safer for you and for the baby. I would not put too much stock in any commercial ultrasound studio.
