Question-Thank you for your responses, you have helped me so much. I have one more question. I am about 25 weeks and I have already gained almost 30 lbs. I weighed 110 before I was pregnant. On April 25th I weighed 128 and today I went to my primary care doctor for something else and I weighed 138. So that is 10 lbs in less than 4 weeks! What could be going on? I don't eat bad and I try and do some sort of workout everyday. I have noticed that I gained a little in my thighs, but other than that it just looks like it is all in my stomach. I have like 14 weeks until my due date and I am worried about how much I will have gained by then! Could there be something wrong? ------------------------

-This is a follow up question because I accidentally wrote the first day of last period down wrong in my last email to you. My last period was not November 11, 2004, it was November 18, 2004 (Sorry I put the wrong date last time). My ultrasound at 18 weeks said I should be due on August 17th, but according to my LMP (11-18-04) I should be due around August 26th...would this still be too late to ovulate on December 12th? On March 28th when my doctor felt where my uterus was he said I was 18 or 19 weeks. Just trying to make sense of all this!

Dr. Rappaport,
I have been told by my Ob-gyn that the earliest ultrasounds are the most accurate, is this true? The first day of my last period was November 11, 2004...I had an ultrasound done on March 28, 2005, according to that ultrasound I am due on August 17, 2005, however my doctor said we will keep my original due date of August 26th since I was sure of my last period and I normally have a 30 day cycle. He said later ultrasounds can be off 10-14 days either way. That same day when he felt where my uterus was he said I was 18 or 19 weeks. Does this make sense? From all this information could I have conceived on December 12th or would that have been too late?
Answer -
If your last period started on November 11, then your due date (by dates) is August 17 and you are now 26 weeks 3 days (as of today, May 16). If you normally have a 30 day cycle, you probably ovulated on cycle day #16, or on November 26 and could have conceived if you had sex on November 25,26,27, or 28. December 12 would have been too late for ovulation.
Answer -
If you have a 30 day cycle and your last period started on November 18, then you would have ovulated on December 3 amd could have conceived if you had sex on December 2,3,4, or 5. Your due date (by LMP) is August 24. You should now be 25 weeks 3 days. On March 28, you should have been 18 weeks 4 days. The sonogram measured you as one week bigger. At that stage of pregnancy, there is an error of + or - 14 days on sonogram readings, so I would keep your due date of August 24.
AnswerWe usually advise a woman to gain 3lbs per month during a pregnancy (that is 30 lbs for the entire pregnancy). If you are gaining too much weight, discuss it with your obstetrician. It may merely be fluid, but you may have to watch juices, sweets, etc. Until you speak to your doctor, don't try to diet.
