Breech Presentation During Labor: Potential Risks and Doctor's Vaginal Exams
QuestionI was breeched when my mother went into labor it's hard to say which breech postition it may be considered my butt was down my left leg was straight down my vagina was right at my mother's cervix and my right leg was disconnected from my hip and around my head it sounds really messed up but my question is not only one but two the doctor when checking my mother to see how far she was dialated was inserting his fingers into me over 16 times over a span of 3 hours would that have damaged my ovaries so that i can not have children I have miscarried 6 babies in the last 2 years and are having a lot of problems?
My other question is when the doctor was trying to bring me out of my mother he had gotten ahold of my left leg and kept pushing me up and down in her womb until my right leg released itself from around my head I have problems with both my legs especially my right hip and leg , I want to know should the doctor have done a c-section which would have prevented the damage to me over all or what the doctor did the right thing?
AnswerWhen your mother was in labor, and the doctor did a pelvic exam to see how far dilated her cervix had become, the doctor did not damage your ovaries. The doctor's fingers did not enter your vagina (it was too small at the time) nor were your ovaries even touched. The doctor could only have determined if you were in the breech position or vertex position at that time of that exam. Once it was determined that you were breech and that one leg was down and one was up near your head, the maneuvers were correct in trying to deliver you. These days (2005) we sould not have even tried to deliver a breech vaginally. We would immediately opt for cesarean section. It is an easier and safer delivery. A cesarean section would have made an easier delivery, but the vaginal delivery did not cause any damage to you.
