Questionto start, i have had 2 positive pregnancy tests, and also been to the doctor.
my lmp was april 17th. i was a week late, i expected my period the 10th, so i
had a 35 day cycle. i then found out i was pregnant on may 30th. the only
time i could have gotten pregnant that i can recall, would have been on or
around may 14th. but because of my period in april, it doesnt really make
sense that i would be ovulating then. anyhow, at my doctors appointment,
she said that my uterus felt a little small for 9 weeks (which is what they
thought i was according to my last period). when she did the u/s, all we saw
was a gestational sac, no baby. she said either things werent developing
normally or im not as far along as we thought. she then sent me to do blood
work to check my hormone levels. the first test it was at 77,600. my second
test was 71,000. so my levels have dropped, instead of doubled as she said
they should early in pregnancy. i am going tomorrow to have more bloodwork
done to check my levels again. my question is, knowing all of this, do you
think its possible that i am still pregnant and things are fine, im just not as
far along as we thought and thats why we couldnt see a baby? im confused,
because my levels dropped, i feel hopeless that things will be ok.
AnswerDear Laine,
With hCG levels over 70,000, you almost certainly would have to be at least 7 weeks along. And, unfortunately, at 7 weeks, there should not only be a visible fetus, but also heart activity.
This may be a failed pregnancy - either a molar pregnancy or a blighted ovum situation. I don't want to be the voice of doom for you. Wait and see what the levels show, but try to prepare yourself for that possibility.
I hope this information has answered your question. I wish you well and will have a good thought for you.
