Delayed Period After Ovulation: Symptoms & Possible Causes
QuestionI emailed you before just a follow up question. I took my patch off on 04-20 and right away got my period on 04-24. I emailed you previously about ovulation timeframes that were best for me. Well assuming all was correct my husband and I focused on those days. Well its now 05-28 still no period. I took first responce negative. I know it could be wishful thinking or too soon. However my recent symptons are: headaches, lots of clear discharge(which is not normal for me) and bloating and emotional. Also I am getting little cramps in my side. Now I called my obgyn and asked when is the proper time to come in to get blood test. They said since I came off patch to not come in till 2 mos late on period. They said that I could not be getting my period due to coming off patch. I explained I got my period right away they said this always happens after removing patch. So anyhow please explain if you agree. I figured I would get different symptons from lack of patch however I wasnt expecting missed period. Thanks
AnswerSometimes, when you stop the patch, it takes a few months before your period returns to normal. When stopping the patch or the pill, you will immediately have a break through bleed (as you did). This is merely a reaction to the drop in concentration of hormones by stopping any method of birth control. We usually recommend that you wait for a normal period and then assume that ovulation will occur approximately 14 days from the first day of that period. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. The earliest signs and symptoms of pregnancy are nausea, fatigue, and breast tenderness. Headaches, discharge, or bloatiness are not signs of pregnancy. If you do not get your period within 8 weeks, see your doctor. If the pregnancy test is negative, your period can be induced using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your regular period within 10 days.
