Amniotic Leak at 8 Weeks Pregnant: What to Do?

Question
I am 22 I have 1 19 month old  girl and am 8 weeks pregnant. I went to the emergency room late at night because of some unusual wetness. I was told I have a small amniotic leak and sent home. The next day a nurse practioner at the clinic I go to said she looked over the ultrasound taken at the er and that my crevix was closed and there is no way there is a leak. Also she said at 8 weeks I should olny have about a tbl. spoon of fluid. Do I need a second opinion or was I given the wrong diagnosis at the er?

Answer
It is unlikely that you would have any amniotic fluid at 8 weeks gestation. If the cervix was closed and you are not leaking copious amounts of fluid, there should be no problems. Leter on in pregnancy, if you do have a high leak of amniotic fluid, it usually reaccumulates as the pregnancy progresses. You may have had some urine leaking out due to the growth of the uterus. If you are not bleeding now or having cramps, wait until 12 weeks gestation and get a sonogram.
