Amniotic Fluid Levels at 32 Weeks: What's Normal?

Question
I am 32 weeks pregnant and I had an ultrasound today. My fluid measured 12 the ultrasound tech said that it was a tad bit low. I know that  under 5cm is dangerous but what is the norm for 32 weeks gestation? Can it increase over the next few weeks or will it decrease? My 1st child measured low at 40 weeks so I was induced. Please inform me a little on this subject. Thanks so much!

Answer
Nina,

Even at 12cm, your fluid is still within the normal range.  The truth is, if you went back a few hours later and had an ultrasound done again, your fluid may have measured 16cm.  It is subjective to some extent,(based on who is doing the ultrasound) and it also has to do with the position of the baby.  The baby could have just been laying in a postion in which not as much fluid was visualized.  Also, your will keep producing amniotic fluid.  But, it is definately something to keep an eye on for the next few weeks.  Good luck and I hope this helps!
