Question26, 1 child, period started 1/ 1/2 weeks ago. i asked you a question a few days ago about problems with bleeding after intercourse. i wanted to let you know i went to my gyno. for an exam and she said she didn't find an ectropion, but she found a peice of tissue that was kinda hanging down that looked irritated on my cervix. she used a "cauterizing jelly" on it and said it should help. i told her i was terrified that this might be cervical cancer and she said "with my history of clear paps, it's not cervical cancer.(which, from what i have read, is worst case scernerio for post sex bleeding) so, do you think i should trust her and not push for any other test and just stop worrying about it? i think i should but, i would like your opinion!
AnswerIf your PAP smears are normal, there is no cause for alarm. Often, there can be extra tissue that arises from the cervix (polyps, skin tags, ectropion, etc) which has nothing to do with cancer of the cervix. The bleeding that is seen with cancer of the cervix or cancer of the uterus is usually much heavier than you described and very dark and gooey. Just keep up with your PAP smears every year and, if they are within normal limits, you need not worry.
