Post-Gallbladder Surgery Recovery During Pregnancy: Addressing Concerns

Question
I recently had to have gallbladder surgery (lap.) and have been suffering from diarrhea and vomiting. I have lost 25 lbs in 2 weeks and I am 16 weeks pregnant. My doctor says that my body will take time to adjust and to keep eating bland foods and drink a lot of water and my OB doesn't seem to be worried. Is this ok? Are there some side effects to the baby, which came out of the whole thing fine according to ultrasounds? I am really nervous and pretty depressed that I can't even seem to keep dry toast down. Is there any thing I should ask my doctor about, diet reccommendations? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Usually, nausea and vomiting of pregnancy will disappear at around 15 weeks gestation. However, since you had the surgery, you may have exacerbated the nausea for awhile. Don't worry if you have lost the weight. YOu should start to gain again when the nausea dissipates and you are eating regularly again. Re-evaluate your situation after 20 weeks gestation (when you will probably have another sonogram) and discuss it with your doctor. All should be fine. You do not have to do anything special.
