PCOS & Clomid: Understanding Bleeding on Cycle Day 21 - A Patient's Experience

Question
So, how could I have ovulated while still bleeding?  Could this be a sign that the metformin is working.  Thank you!

Question -
How is this possible?

I got off of BCP's on April 1, 2005.  I had one period about 45 days later, but since then I have had bleed induced via a progesterone shot.

I have taken Clomid 50mg and 100mg - no ovulation.

This month I am on Clomid 150mg.  I have been on metformin 1500mg for two months now.

My period has just shown up, miraculously, but it's only CD21, which means I would have ovulated CD6 or 7, while I was still on Clomid.

The other option is that I had a really short LP, but that's unlikely, since I had a thermal shift that indicated ovulation on CD6, and I didn't have any positive OPK's from CD10 to now.

1.  What could be going on here?
2.  Is this something to worry about?

Please help!
Answer -
I would continue the Clomid 150mg for a few months. If your period started on cycle day #21, and you had signs of ovulation on cycle day #6, the Clomid may not have had any effect, yet. That would also indicate that your luteal phase is, indeed, 14-16 days. Keep trying.

Answer
Were you still bleeding on cycle day #8 (when you ovulated)? I do not know the exact mechanism by which metformin works. However, the use of metformin along with Clomid has wonderful success in increasing the chances of becoming pregnant, especially for women with PCOS.
