Early Pregnancy Cramps: Causes & What to Expect

Question
Hi, I am 31 and have two children.  The date of my last menstrual period was November 3, 2005.  I am pretty sure I am pregnant but I keep having menstrual-like cramps. This was my first month off of the birth control pill.  I have no spotting, just mild cramping.  What could this be?

Answer
If your last period started on November 3, you would have ovulated arund November 16 and could have conceived only if you had sex on November 15,16,17, or  18. If you did, indeed, become pregnant on one of those days, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best  time to take a pregnancy test  is seven days after missing your next period. Since you are due for your  next period on November 30, if you do not get your period by December 7, I would suggest that you take a pregnancy test at that time. If you are starting to feel cramping at  this time, you may merely be getting ready to start your next period (wich is due in two days).
