QuestionI am 33 yrs old with no children. I have had one ectopic pregnancy (June 2005 and a self-resolving one in August 2005). I still have both tubes as they couldn't find the pregnancy in June and said everything looked fine and I was just unlucky). My LMP was 11/24/2005, however I know I ovulated on day 17 as I chart my cycles.
My HCG results which were last taken were as follows:
12/20 - 19.1,
12/22 - 91,
12/24 - 361,
12/26 - 710,
12/28 - 2231
They stopped taking my HCG as they said it all looks normal (That's the English National Health Service for you). I had so much pain on the right where I ovulated and I had a scan when I was 4 weeks 3 days and they saw a cyst on my right ovary (the corpus luteum they said), and a gestational sac which was 4mm in the uterus. So far my pain on the right has subsided. I had another scan at 5 weeks 3 days and they saw a yolk in the sac which was now 13.74mm. I have another scan scheduled when I am 7 weeks 3 days.
I am worried as my pregnancy symptoms seem to come one day and go the next. On the day of my 5 week scan (2 days ago) I was convinced I had lost the pregnancy as I woke up and my breasts weren't sore any more. Then, yesterday I woke up feeling really nauseus and my breasts were sore again. I was bloated and had period type pains in my lower abdomen. Then, this morning I woke and the symptoms seem to have gone again.
Is it normal for symptoms to come and go like that ? I do not have any bleeding (in fact, I have lots of creamy cm), but I am worried I may lose this pregnancy.
Thanks for your time,
Louise
AnswerSince your HCG values appear to be rising nicely, and the last sonogram showed evidence of a yolk sac, I doubt that you have any problems. It is common to have a corpus luteum cyst until around 12 weeks gestation, at which time the placenta takes over maintenance of the pregnancy. Often, prior to 6 weeks gestation we do not see a fetus or a fetal heartbeat. However after 6 weeks, a sonogram usually shows a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. See what the sonogram shows after 7 weeks. Don't worry. It is very common to have symptoms that come and go. As long as you have not had any bleeding or severe cramping, don't worry.
