I had a car accident when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had a scan at 8 and a half weeks and the baby was only 6 weeks on the scan and had no heartbeat. I miscarried 4 weeks later but I started to bleed within an hour of the accident until I miscarried!
The baby seems to have terminated at the point of the accident!
I know these things are hard to prove, but in your opinion what would you say?
Thanks alot

It certainly is conceivable that you may have injured the growing embryo at the time of the accident. Were you hit in yur abdomen? Did the steering wheel injure your abdomen? HOwever, it is impossible to prove that there was a "cause and effect" relationship of the accident to the miscarriage, especially since you did not start bleeding until 4 weeks after the accident. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of all pregnancies. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. We usually never figure out what caused the cesation of growth in a baby at 6 weeks. The stress of the accident could have had some impact on the pregnancy.
Thank you for your reply, however just to correct you, I started bleeding within an hour of the accident and this continued for 4 weeks until the miscarriage occured. I was the passenger in the car and we were hit with force from behind and then in front also. The seatbelt caused chest and stomach pain as well as whiplash.
I am 25, no children and am very healthy. My last period was 15th September 05
Thanks
AnswerIt sounds like the miscarriage occurred at the time of the accident. HOwever, even if you were hit and the seatbelt caused pain and you sufferred whiplash, there is no way to know if the miscarriage (or the bleeding) occurred due to th4e accident. It seems reasonable to assume that, however.
