my hubby has herpes.i never had no blisters so i don't think i have it.i want to know would i have to have c-section this time incase i carry the virus and i don't know?
Answer -
If you develop Herpes simplex I (genital herpes) and become pregnant, you still can have a vaginal delivery as long as you do not have herpetic lesions (sores) at the time of labor. We check for herpes and you can be treated during pregnancy if the tests come back positive. At the time that labor starts, if you do not have any sores, you can try for a vaginal delivery. If there are sores noted when you get to the hospital, you will have a cesarean section.

Answer
If you do not have sores, you can have a vaginal delivery. It is only when you have sores that we perform a cesarean section. There are antibody tests that can show if you have had Herpes II or were exposed to Herpes II. If we see sores, we can take a swab of the sore and send for a Herpes culture. If you notice "tingling", you may be shedding virus and a antibody titer can be done. Discuss it with your doctor.
