Prometrium for Pregnancy: Recurrence & Exercise Safety
QuestionHello, the question that i have is, in my first pregnancy my Ob-gyn had prescribed Prometrium to me, because she had stated that i have a thin uterus lining. My husband and I are planning to have our second child, would they prescribe prometrium the second time around, or is there another medication that is better than prometrium? The second question is can i excersice during the 1st and 2nd trimesters in my pregnancy or while taking prometrium? Please email me at Michael132131@aol.com. Thanks
AnswerWe prescribe progesterone (Prometrium or Provera) in preganncy to patients who have a "luteal phase defect" or a low level of progesterone. If you have low levels of progesterone, there is a higher risk of miscarriage. You can take progesterone until around 12 weeks gestation, when the placenta takes over the production of progesterone. Progesterone and estrogen are responsible for the thickness of the endometrium and the production of areterioles within the endometrium. You can exercise throughout pregnancy even if you are taking prometrium. I would avoid aerobic exerecises, and you will have to stop abdominal exercises once you no longer have a waist. Good Luck.
