U.S. Immigration Options for Spouses of Japanese Citizens - Welfare & Support

Question
Dear Debbie,

I am have recently married a Japanese national and we are hoping to enter the U.S. in the next month or so.  I am a U.S. citizen.  We are both unemployed (we were both students), and depend on our families for support at this time.  I hope to continue my studies while working part time to support my family.

We have a baby due in May, and have heard that it is possible for those without much money to do a delivery through welfare programs/social programs.  This would be very helpful for us as the cost of having a child is very high.  I would like to to learn more about the possibilities, and am hoping you can enlighten me or direct me to websites/ agencies that can help me.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Al

Answer
Hello,
My apologies for the delay, I had unexpected surgery but all is well now.

Yes, there are health insurance policies available for those without insurance if you qualify.  Each state has their own agencies.

You would need to look up the Department of Health for the state you may be moving to.  They may also be called the Department of Family and Childrens Services.

You can also Google "Medicaid" and the state you'll be moving to.

Godd luck to you!
