QUESTION: By the way, my friend told me she took medication for her kidney infection at the time she was pregnant. Is it one of the cause of her earlier delivery? Is it consider as premature, and what is supposed to be the weight of her child? What should be the exact date of her delivery?

Answer
Your friend's delivery was not too early or premature.  Based solely on the date of her last menstrual period, her due date would have been January 6, 2007.  On December 15, 2006, she would have been 37 weeks.  However, those calculations are necessarily inexact without knowing the exact date of her ovulation.

All babies gestate for different amounts of times, and they come in all different sizes.  Some women always have babies around 36-37 weeks, other women always have their babies at 41-42 weeks.  Both are normal.  Some babies are 5 or 6 pounds, some are 10 or 12 pounds.  Both are normal.  A due date is only based on the average length of time a baby stays in the womb; it is not an alarm clock or an expiration date.  A "normal" birthweight is also just an average.
