Epidural During Labor & Zofran Use: Safety & Considerations

Hi,

Can you please tell me if it is safe to take epidural before delivery . i am 6 months pregnant with  my first baby and really concerned about it... my vomiting doesnt stop and i am still taking zofran. Please let me know if there are any side effects of epidural and zofran?

There are no interaction side effects from an epidural and Zofran. I would say about 95% of our patients get an epidural. There is really nothing to be afraid of. The risks (which are rare) are a spinal headache and infection at the site. They are very rare. It is very safe to have an epidural. You can talk to the anesthesia doctor before you get too far into labor when you aren't too uncomfortable to talk. Hope this helps!
