Clomid Dosage and Cycle Length: Understanding 8-Day Protocols

I am on clomid 100mg for 8 days starting cycle day 2 thrugh cycle day 9. My question is this unherd of? I have never herd of any one else taking clomid for 8 days. I was on 50mg for 6 days (cd3 thrugh cd8} failed with no ovulation then did 100mg same cycle days also failed to ovulate then tried 150mg but side effects after day 3 so we stopped the clomid and waited 3 months and restarted with this 100mg for the 8 days. I had a progesterone 21 day test and it came back more then good it was 55. before the clomid it was 0.2 my dr said that was a little stronger then he expected he thought it would be around 15 or so. I had problems at ovulation time the next month with a lot of pain and bloating, done blood work to make sure didn;t have over stimulated overies or something like that and this round of clomid which will be round three my dr said do 50 mg same cycle days for 8 days. I am also on metformin 500mg 3x a day. I have a healthy three year old boy who was conceived on 50mg of clomid cycle days2 thrughcycle day 7.(6days)from the same dr. Was also on metformin then to and have never went off of it since because when I tried I don't get my periods except every 45 to 50 days. Now I am regular every 30th day I start like clock work. Except this time after the pain and stuff I went 31 days. Also does taking the clomid 8 days have anythin to do as when to have baby making sex? Thank you in advance

Usually, clomiphene is administered for 5 days each month (usualy  cycle day #5,6,7, 8, and 9).Some pradtitioners give it on cycle day #3,4,5,6, and 7. Do you have PCOS? Clomid and metformin have a 95% success rate of pregnancy for  patients with a diagnosis of PCOS. If you have tried Clomid at this dose for more than 6 months to no avail, you should stop the Clomid. After 6 months, if it has not worked, it will not work (statistically). Discuss it all with your doctor.  What side effects did you have? You mentioned pain but nothing else. Please let me know.
