Nipple Discharge & Crack During Pregnancy: What Could It Be?

I am 24 years old and am 30 weeks pregnant. I have been having discharge for almost two months now from my nipples. My Dr. said this is normal. About one week ago I started seeing a crack or whole in the middle of my left nipple. It has become very sore (especially when it gets hard from cold) and the skin has begun to turn a whitish color, which seems to go away with a warm shower. The discharch has started to form small yellow scabs over the cracked area.  Do you think this is a yeast infection, or is soreness common. The crack almost looks like its just the opening for my milk to come out. Whats going on, do I need to worry?

What you describe is normal for the last 10 weeks of pregnancy. Whenever you see the yellow or green scabs on yur nipple, do not rub it off, but take a warm shower or gently wipe it with a warm, moist washcloth. It does not sound like a yeast infection. Soreness of the breasts are common throughout pregnancy.Cracking breasts are also common. Don't worry.
