Understanding Vaginal Strep Infections: Causes, Symptoms & Recovery

Question
Back in January I went to my doctor's office because I thought I had a bladder infection.  What it ended up being was a vaginal strep infection.  They prescribed some medicine and apparently it went away.

I'm just wondering - how does one get a vaginal strep infection?  I can't find much about it on the internet - when I do it's always talking about newborn babies and pregnant women, neither of which have anything to do with me!

I'm afraid I might have another one.  Either that or a bladder infection.  How can I tell the difference?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kate,
It may be hard to tell the difference between the two. Strep is an omnipresent bacteria. You could have encountered it through hygiene issues, intercourse, douching or tampon use. If you think you have a recurrence, it should be checked out.
