Understanding Fertility: Questions to Ask Your Doctor

Question
Hi
Actually we were trying from november 2004-march 2005 and then we were in sperate places for 6 months then again from october 2005-till date.

Before that from june 2003 to till november 2004 we were in birth contolr and my hubby used condoms.

Although for the past 4 months we were continosly trying. So atleast now i would liek to go to doctor.

Just to verify that we both are perfect for a child.

And i just want to know what kinda treatment we are going to have.Since i m new to this place i dont know about the Treatment here.I m new To USA.

Thanks
Ramya

Hi Ramya,
At 3 months, I wouldn't worry that much about fertility. Were you on birth control before January? It typically takes 3-6 months and maybe longer on some methods to get out of your system.
It looks like your cycles are just about 27 days- the last was a little longer- could be the stress of trying.
Talk to your doctor about trying to conceive. Remember you are fertile 2 weeks BEFORE your period. Start taking a prenatal vitamin with Folic Acid and drink a lot of water.
Good luck,
Jill

Answer
Ramya,
Find a doctor that you feel comfortable with. You may want to consider a Nurse Practitioner Midwife. Find a midwife that does family planning and ask to make a preconception/family planning appointment. That way, you can discuss how and when you've been trying and ask for suggestions. It still may be early for fertility testing, but your healthcare practitioner can discuss if that is an option for you at this time.
We talk about this pretty openly here in the US. It is not wrong for you to discuss these personal issues with your healthcare provider. Good luck, try to relax, and enjoy!
