Question36, 4 girls lmp March 20, 2004. I just came from the doctor's office and they couldn't see anything from the ultrasound but they said it could just be to early. They took blood Friday and hadn't got the results back so they drew more blood the nurse called them to ask about quanitative and my numbers were 678 is that good or bad at this time in the pregancy. I'm really worried because they made me feel like I wasn't really pregnant. What could cause a false postitive pregnancy test?

AnswerIf your last period started on March 20, you probably ovulated around April 2. You could only have become pregnant if you had sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 (or April 1,2,3,or 4). If you did become pregnant on one of those days, the earliest that a pregnancy test would show a positive result would be 14-21 days later, or April 16-23. The range of HCG at 3-4 weeks pregnant (from the first day of your period) is 9-130. The range of HCG at 4-5 weeks is 75-2600. Since 678 falls into that range, you probably are around 4-5 weeks pregnant. A sonogram at around 5 weeks will not show a fetus buy may only show an empty gestational sac. However, by 6-7 weeks, it will show a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. At 5-6 weeks, the HCG ranges from 850-20800, and at 6-7 weeks, it is 4000-100.200. I think you probably are a bit early.
