Light Spotting Before Period: Causes & What to Expect
QuestionI'm 31, I have no children and my last period was 3/11/06. I have been trying to conceive since November and I came off the pill in August. I have normal periods even after the pill (usually between 27 to 29 day cycles). However, the only difference between now and when I was on the pill is that I experience very, very light spotting (it's actually discharge) and is light pink and/or brown in color just a few days or so before my periods. It usually only lasts for a couple of days. The first time it happened I thought it could be implantation bleeding but it happens almost every month so probably not. I had a positive ovulation test on 3/23 and had sex on March 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th. My question is this: I want to know if there is a chance that I could be pregnant even though I have had the pinkish brown spotting on April 4th and 5th. I think the spotting is just old blood from my last period, but if I was pregnant, wouldn't my body not push out the old blood due to the fact that I wouldn't be getting ready to have a period? If I was pregnant, would old blood from my last period still escape? Or would my body reabsorb it?
AnswerOften, during pregnancy, we see some spotting of brown blood which is usually old blood from a previous period that had oxidized. If you you have a 27-29 day cycle, and your last period started on March 11, you would have ovulated on March 24 and could have could have conceived if you had sex on March 23,24,25, or 26.You were due for your next period on April 7. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you miss your next period.Take another pregnancy test after April 14. If it is negative, oou are not pregnant.
