QuestionI had intercourse on April 9th, and got what I hoped to be my period on April 17th. At that time, my period lasted only 2 days, when it had previously lasted 3-5 days on average. I took a HPT on May 14th, and it came out negative. On May 26th, I got what I hoped to be my period, again, and it also only lasted for 2 days. I know that sometimes it is possible to bleed during pregnancy, and I was wondering if there is a possibility of my being pregnant, despite the negative test.
Thank You,
Sara
AnswerDear Sara,
It is not uncommon to have some bleeding early in pregnancy. If the only unprotected sexual encounter you had was on 4/9, then the test on 5/14 should have been long enough for it to be accurate. However, stranger things have happened... And if you did not use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample, there would be a possibility that the hCG level just wasn't high enough to read positive.
If that was the only encounter, then it would definitely be long enough by now. To be sure, go ahead and re-test if you continue to suspect pregnancy.
If the repeat test comes back negative, then I'd say you are not pregnant and the irregular, short periods are due to a hormonal issue. In order to get regulated again, you will likely need to see your doctor for an evaluation.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
