I am 26 years old and my husband is 31 years. We are trying from last 7 months. My last period was on 14th april. I have done HSG test this cycle and took 100 mg clomid from cycle day 5-10. I got positive Ovulation test on April 26th. We had intercourse on that day (Cycle day 13, BBT was deep). On 27th april I had little back pain (feels like period is coming, BBT increase)in the afternoon. We did not have intercorse on 27th but on 28th I had IUI at about 10.0 AM (BBT increase more). My doctor said I probably ovulated on 27th.
My doctor did not do sperm wash and injected directly whole semen sample into the uterus. Because of that I had very bad cramps and pain (Like labor pain) for 3-4 hours. So, since than  we did not have any physical relationship. Is it o.k to inject the sperm directly into the uterus? How is my chances to get pregnent this cycle? Also, I experiance spotting one week before my actual period in every cycle. Is it normal?

Hi Pinky,

I hope the IUI works out for you! Yes it is OK to do IUI where the sperm go right into the uterus. As far as chances to get pregnant- it sounds like your doctor has everything under control- it sounds good!

As far as the spotting before a period- hmmm... Id have to say to ask the doctor about that one, I am not sure, but intercourse can cause some spotting especially during that time as the blood vessels around the cervix can get swollen in preparation for the period. I am assuming you have been checked for all sorts of fertility issues by now? Your back pain on the 27th was likely the ovulation. It is great that you are that in tune with your body that you could feel that!  So many women cannot feel ovulation.

I dont know what the cramping was from that you had after the IUI. I went through in vitro and did not have any cramping afterwards but I was implanted with two embryos rather than sperm. We didnt do IUI. I suppose the cramping could be very normal; any time a doctor does anything to a uterus there could be cramping.

hang in there, you are in what is called the 2 week wait. This is those agonizing two weeks you  have to wait to see if you are pregnant and your treatments were successful.  I have been there myself. So I assume somewhere around May 13th or so you are expecting to get a positive pregnancy test!

Yes IUI does work, it has a good success rate; you sound very informed and I am sure your doctor is doing everything he/she can to make sure this works for you. Just hang in there. Good luck, I really hope things work out for you and  your husband!

Thanks for your reply andi. But What I was trying to ask is that is it o.k to inject the semen directly into the uterus? Because I have read that Semen has lots of chemicals in it and because of that you might get infection and all those symptoms I faced. I have read one artical which says it's actually decrease your chances. That's why usually infertility specialist wash the sperm before injecting into uterus. Wash can actually seperate the semen and sperms. Also I read that egg can survive for 12-48 hours but it can fertlize only up to 12 hours. I have done IUI after 24 hours of ovulation. Plus sperm needs atleast 6-12 hours for capatalize and get power to penetrate the egg. So, according to that I have missed the chance right? Accept I had sperm inside from intercourse we did day before ovulation. I don't know How corerct is this information.

Hi Pinky,

not so sure about the chemicals in the semen being harmful- nature made it the way it did for a reason. i do think it should be OK to inject the sperm/semen right into the uterus ; the "chemical" properties of semen are there to protect the sperm in the harsh environment of the uterus. If you are at risk for getting an infection for semen I would HOPE that the Dr addressed this first? if the doctor didnt wash it first... did you ask  him why not? i still think you might have a great fighting chance, dont give  up hope just yet!

Yes there is a small window for an egg to get fertilized but again- i dont think your doctor would go through the IUI if he felt there was no chance.

i think between your own regular activities and the IUI you have a good chance. This is unfortunately why they say the term "practicing medicine"! It is a pure science but not a perfect one. The body is an odd machine. Hang in there; I would call your doctor if you are having questions about the procedure so he can better explain them to you.

Good luck! keep me posted.i am eager for good results  for you!

Hi andi,
I am at 15 DPO (Days passed ovulation) and 14 DPiUi (Days passed IUI). My period is not start yet. I am not even feeling spotting this cycle. I am having white mucus discharge oftenly in the day and mild cramps (like constipation pain or movement). No any other symptoms. I am little confuse checking BBT. Because from 2-3 days I woke up at about 3-3.30 AM and checked my BBT it's low. But after that I sleep again and get up at 6.00AM (as always) than It's higher. What do you think which one is correct? Usually I measure at 6.00AM in whole cycle. So, compare to that it's higher but at 3.00AM I am really in very deep sleep and take temp. Do you think I am pregnant? I am taking clomid first time this cycle So, with the odd cycle I am not very surprice. But today I missed my period!...Well I am not planning to test atleast before sunday. I can't see negative HPT anymore.

Hi,

Well as far as your BBT (temp right?) I dont know much about that- sorry!

Do I think you could be pregnant? Sure! You have done all the protocols that the doctors have given you; taken the clomid; did the IUI- and now a "mising" period. Think positive thoughts. My husband was the first "clomid" baby born at Maimonides hospital in NY years ago... many years ago. This after they told my mother in law she'd never have  children. She has two!

The cramps could very possibly be a sign you are pregnant. I had them years ago when i was pregnant with my daughter and thought for sure it was my period on its way. If it felt like a sharper twinge back around the ovulation, maybe even a couple days after ovulation,  it could have been implantation.

So far it sounds like things are different already for your cycle and your body- so maybe it is a sign you are indeed pregnant!

hang in there. hang in there! i know it is tough! Dont despair if you get a negative- retest in a couple days after if you do (I am hoping it is positive of course) because you know those home tests only usually pick up HcG at around 100. If your hcG is lower than that you might get a false negative. i got negatives at home TWO DAYS before my blood test! The blood test had a reading of 126 which meant that my hcG was like 80 something two days prior, too low for a home test to pick up.

You have a couple more days to hang in there- you will make it. think positive.

Thanks Andi for your kind words and positive thought. Unfortunately I fot my period today. I am very upset but I have to face it. Thank you again for your time.

Hi Pinky,

I am so sorry.  Do the doctors know what exactly is going on or is it unexplained?

There is a good chat board on babytalkbio.com    and fertilethoughts.com   I have been on both before, if you are interested in something like that. if nothing else it may be able to give you a little bit of support in your journey.

i wish there was something I could do for you to make things better! :-(
