Pregnancy Concerns: Weight Gain & Irregular Periods - Seeking Advice

Question
Hi,   I m 31 yrs of age.. This is my first pregnancy (medically 2nd pregnancy but first was resulted into missed abortion in the 2nd month in oct 2004).  Since then I d tried medicines to conceive - Siphene for 2 cycles in July & oct 05 but nothing happened then in nov spontaneous conception happened.    Last LMP before this pregnancy was in oct 2005. I m not sure on my date since I ve history of irregular periods. Sometimes it was of 35 days & sometimes even exceeded to 45 days.     I was on pills for 1.5 yrs after my marriage in 2001. We tried for baby since end of 2002 but no success. All my tests were normal, even my husband s test were also normal. Then in 2004 got conceived but mishap happened. Then in nov 05 conceived again. Right now I m in my 27th week of Gestation.    on 29th March 06 (POG was 20 weeks)wt - 56 kg, BP 110/70.   on 24th April 06 (POG - 24 weeks) showed wt - 60 Kg, BP - 110/70  on 22nd May 06 (POG - 27 weeks) wt - 61 Kg, BP - 104/60.    My question is   1. this sudden increase of wt from 56 to 60kg, is it normal? or do I need to take some precautions?    2. My gynae says seeing my condition & age I can expert a normal delivery but a second opinion from a family friend who is also a gynae states that I ll have a precious pregnancy & will have a ceasarian. What do you suggests here? I m kind of confused what to opt for?     I ve been told that this pregnancy has a late ovulation. on 13/12/2005 I d Beta HCG done which was 530.20 mIU/ml & on 16/12/205 it increased to 2661.00 mIU/ml, which confirmed the pregnancy.     Do I need to take any precautions or expect something which I m not aware of? Please let me know.    Thanks

Answer
If you are now 27 weeks gestational age (May 24)  then your last period started on November 15 and you are due to have the baby on August 22. (You did not mention when you started your last period). Even if you have irregular periods, we base your due date on the first day of your last period.   Your weight gain is fine. You should expect a weight gain for the entire pregnancy of around 13kg. The sudden rise at 24 weeks is nothing to worry about, unless you have twins. You should have had a sonogram by now which would confirm the adequacy of the growth of the fetus. i see no reason why you should require a cesarean section at this time. Every pregnancy is "precious". A vaginal delivery is "safer" than an operative delivery.
